Site details
Site description: A large system lakes in the steppe zone of eastern Orenburg region, near the border with Kazakhstan.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The area is very important for migrating ducks and geese, but more research on spring and autumn migration is needed.
Delineation rationale: 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 50°56'31'N 60°51'14'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 151190 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
