Site details
Site description: The area is a shallow water bay in the Ul'yanovsk part of Kuybyshev reservoir, located to the south-east of Ul'yanovsk, in a highly developed part of region.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: A total of more then 20,000 waterfowls and gulls, and up to 10,000 waders (Calidris sp, Tringa sp.) stop over during migration.
Delineation rationale: 2009-08-11: IBA area changed from 63,000 ha to 75,081 ha (by BL Secretariat, following RBCU spreadsheet of changes that need making). 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 54°2'28'N 49°17'6'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 75081 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
