Site details


Site description: In the mountains the vegetation comprises large expanses of sclerophyllous scrub, areas of dense maquis, and small Quercus woodlands. In the plains there are extensive dehesas and grasslands.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Breeding birds include four of the 20 species in Europe that are restricted to the Mediterranean biome (when breeding).
