Site description: An area to the west of Badajoz with open dehesas alternating with grasslands and cereal crops.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: This is an important area for steppic species and wintering Grus grus.

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The most important threat to the site is a plan to create the Alqueva reservoir in Portugal. Rain following a recent drought has caused widespread erosion. The area is generally overgrazed.
