Site details


Site description: A mountainous area in the Sierra Morena. The vegetation comprises Mediterranean scrub, dehesas, Pinus plantations and small areas of cultivation. The main human activities are livestock-farming, game hunting and forestry.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This is an important area for breeding raptors

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Threats include forestry, particularly the use of plantations and dam and road projects. Tourism is a potential threat. A management plan has been officially approved for the Sierra de Andujar Natural Park. Aquila adalberti is monitored.
