Site details

Site description: This IBA, situated at 660-770 m above sea level, is to large extent influenced by farming. In the 1970's, most of the area underwent intensive changes aimed at draining and creating large plots of land. Such fields were turned either into arable land or were intensively managed as meadows and pastures. This intervention led to a significant decrease in biodiversity of both flora and fauna. Overuse of fertilizers led to a boom of nitrophilous plants. The drop in the intensity of farming in some areas in the past fifteen years has led to creation of habitats favourable for the Corncrake.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
