Site details

Site description: This IBA is very distinctive and with its characteristics and size it represents the most unique region in Moravia. It is an extensive and, with some small exceptions, uninhabited area. Its only city is Libavá, the seat of the military training area administration. The whole area is covered with a mosaic of more or less coherent forests and open areas with herbaceous vegetation and intermixed shrubs and overgrowth. Wetlands are abundant and represented in many forms. The network of streams with valleys absolutely free of any man-made structures are quite unique in the context of the surrounding cultural and densely inhabited landscape. Equally unique is the number of pools that originate after shooting at the shooting ranges.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
