Site details
Site description: Hostýnské vrchy hills are part of the Carpathian range and their top peak is Keleèský Javorník with the height of 865 m. Forests cover over 90% of this IBA, meadows, pastures, streams and human settlements are found in the remaining parts. About 60% of the forests are coniferous, predominantly spruce monoculture, 30% of the forests are beech, also mainly monoculture. Of the original fir-beech forests rich in herbaceous undergrowth, only remnants have been preserved at localities that are now nature reserves.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
