Site details

Site description: A coherent complex of forests on both banks of the Vltava river is the dominant habitat of this IBA, with two deer parks being the most important parts: the Stará obora (Old deer park) on the left riverbank and the Ponìsická obora (Ponìsická deer park) on the right one. Both deer parks are categorized as forests of specific assignation. This means that they are managed in a special way that led to a high content of broad-leaved trees and also a high proportion of old and 'overgrown' stands. Thanks to these conditions, the area hosts unusually high numbers of several typical bird species of European broad-leaved forests.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
