Site details


Site description: A rocky section of coast at the north-eastern tip of Mallorca with high limestone cliffs and Mediterranean scrub.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site for breeding seabirds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Larus audouinii (20-25 breeding pairs).

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Disturbance from anglers has caused the abandonment of a Larus audouinii colony. L. cachinnans is culled annually. The IBA overlaps with Natural Area of Special Interest (Montañas de Arta).
