Site details


Site description: A plain, at Mallorca's southern tip, occupied by two small natural lagoons and some larger saltpans surrounded by Mediterranean scrub. There are also sand-dunes and some small islets. The main human activities are agriculture, hunting and salt production.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: This is an important wetland for breeding and wintering waterbirds.
