Site details
Site description: The site is a ca. 9 km long and narrow belt of diverse and specific seashore habitats, including sandy beaches, flooded and dry meadows, inlets and lagoons with reedbeds and various other vegetation First listed as part of the IBA 024 in 1994 [1], now it qualifies under the IBA C criteria. High protection level: there is a 87.1% overlap with Randu meadows restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA. The gap between IBA and pSPA boundaries is mostly due to differences in methods in boundary setting.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
