Site details
Site description: The site includes a group of small islands close to the north coast of Spain and mainland cliffs. These are dominated by scrub.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for breeding seabirds.
Delineation rationale: 2015-04-23 (BL Secretariat): site area expanded offshore, from 10 ha (IBA1998) to 1720 ha; Isla de Mouro was included in site ES026 (Bahía de Santander) in the previous IBA inventory (IBA1998), but has been transferred to this site for better ecological coherence (Arcos et al. 2009).
