Site details


Site description: A group of islets to the west of Ibiza. The largest island, Conejera, has cliffs and is dominated by Juniperus scrub. There are no permanent inhabitants but there are many visitors during the summer. The rest of the islets are rocky with sparse scrub cover.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site for breeding seabirds.

Threats


Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The main threats are from disturbance of Larus audouinii by rabbit hunters, military activities and tourists, hunting, and the collection of Puffinus yelkouan chicks for food. Larus cachinnans colonies are culled annually. The IBA overlaps with a Natural Area of Special Interest (Isoltes de Ibiza y Formentera).
