Site description: This site has a wide diversity of good repair habitats and so there is a high specific riches of avifauna.Woodland of evergreen oak (Q.ilex, Q.suber) and some dam with water-fringe vegetation.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: In the dam is possible to see very waterbirds that occur in Portugal, including: Podiceps cristatus, Ixobrychus minutus, Ardea purpurea and Ciconia nigra. Also there are a wide diversity of raptors.In the steppic habitats Tetrax tetrax occurs in reproductive season and Otis tarda in post-reproductive season (about 10 individuals). It is also an important area for the threatened Falco naumanni, due to registered observations of this species in reproductive season.
