Site details


Site description: A steppic area in the north-east of Lanzarote with scrub, drought-resistant grassland and saltpans. Human activities include cattle-grazing, and there is a designated military zone.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The site is one of the best sites in Lanzarote for Chlamydotis undulata and other steppic species. The saltpans provide habitat for migrating and wintering waders and gulls (Laridae).
