Site details
Site description: Inland sand-dunes and sand beaches on the north-east coast of Fuerteventura. Human activities include sport boating.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for breeding steppic species and wintering and migrating waders. The area also supports breeding Calonectris diomedea and Charadrius alexandrinus.

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Threats include bird collisions with electric powerlines, and disturbance caused to both breeding and wintering birds by tourists. A road follows the coastline, hampering the natural landward movement of coastal sand-dunes. The area is a game reserve, and the local government has undertaken five censuses of Chlamydotis undulata since 1979.
