Threats

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Threats include forest fires, feral cats Felis catus and dogs that prey on some bird species, and groundwater abstraction. Water is privately owned and can therefore be sold. As a result abstraction limits water availability, making birds vulnerable to hunters when they congregate at the few remaining drinking sites. Diverse censuses and studies on bird populations have been undertaken (for example, Fringilla teydea, Dendrocopos major and raptors).
