Site details


Site description: Sea cliffs and rock stacks along the north-east coast of La Gomera, which support a typical rocky vegetation. Stony and sandy beaches are also present, along with a rocky intertidal shelf.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for breeding Calonectris diomedea, and is also used by wintering and passage waders.

Threats


Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Pilgrims visiting a hermitage, and anglers can cause disturbance and generate rubbish. Shanties proliferate around the hermitage (`Other' threat). Wintering censuses take place irregularly.
