Site details
Site description: A number of small rocky islets located to the north of El Hierro that support sparse salt-tolerant vegetation.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for breeding seabirds, and is the second most important site for Hydrobates pelagicus in the Canary Islands.
Delineation rationale: 2015-04-23 (BL Secretariat): site area adjusted from 5 ha (IBA2000) to 610 ha (Arcos et al. 2009).
