Site details


Site description: A sandy peninsula in the Sea of Azov, together with the estuary of the Berda river, near the town of Berdyansk.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The total number of breeding waterbirds is 3,000-5,000 pairs, while the total number of waterbirds staging on passage is 30,000-40,000 individuals.
