Site details


Site description: Mira Por Vos site is made up of rocky islands and shoals covering forty square miles. It is located nine miles west of Salina Point, Acklins. Mira Por Vos loosely translates into Watch Out! and the coastline lives up to its name.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: This site provide nesting habitat for Audubon's Shearwater, Sooty Terns, Bridled Terns and Brown Noddies. North Rock is one of the few Brown Booby nesting sites in the Bahamas. Flamingos and Reddish Egrets have been seen at a pond on South Cay.
