Site description: This site, located near Lenino town, includes areas of steppe on the Kazantip peninsula together with wetland habitat along the coast of the Sea of Azov.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The total number of breeding waterbirds is 2,300-2,500 pairs, while 10,000-12,000 individuals stage here during migration (with maximum in October-November).
