Site details
Site description: Booby Island is a long narrow rocky uninhabited area located northeast of Rose Island, in the New Providence vicinity. This island is almost completed
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Brown Boobies is reported to nest at this site. During early September 2007 members of the Ornithology Group took a boat trip to Booby Island, we saw five juvenile Brown Boobies, American Oystercatchers, Ruddy Turnstones, Spotted Sandpipers,Laughing Gulls, Ospreys, Brown Noddies, Roseate, Sooty and Least Terns. There were also Yellow-crowned Night Herons and Green Herons.

Summary of habitats in KBA: Uninhabited and not utilized, rocky coastline with minimal vegetation such as sea purslane, bay cedar and other salt resistant plants. Points of access to the island is very limited.
