Site details


Site description: Gibraltar Point covers three miles of coast from Skegness to The Wash. Wintering and passage wildfowl and waders are supported by the sandy and muddy seashore, sand dunes, saltmarsh and freshwater marsh with ponds and lagoons. The site is also important for breeding terns.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: First identified as part of The Wash in 1989; split into separate site in 2007. SPA boundary used from JNCC; digitised at 1:10,000 scale.
