Site description: The River Allier with alluvial sand beaches and islets, marshes, ponds, riverine forest and arable fields.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for wintering waterfowl. Sterna hirundo and S. albifrons breed on natural gravel islets. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria; Aythya nyroca (passage, wintering); Haliaeetus albicilla (passage, wintering); Tetrax tetrax (passage).
