Site description: The area includes woodland, marshes, wet meadows, dunes and beaches, agricultural land and an estuary.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site is a migratory bottleneck, where more than 3,000 raptors regularly pass in spring (including Milvus migrans 1,600 individuals; Pernis apivorus 650 individuals).

Threats


Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: There is considerable pressure from illegal spring hunting (mainly of Streptopelia turtur). Areas of old mixed forest have been logged as a result of intensive forest management.
