Site details


Site description: Wet flood-meadows, mostly dominated by Carex, some ponds, and marshes with mixed forests, near the shores of Kuronian lagoon.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This is the main breeding area for Acrocephalus paludicola in Lithuania. Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Crex crex and Haliaetus albicilla (1 pair).
Delineation rationale: Site area decreased from 2540 ha (LT IBA 2000) to 480 ha (LT IBA 2004).
