Site details
Site description: A very large bay with islands, mudflats (22,000 ha), raised saltmarsh (>1,000 ha), grassland and arable land, rocky coast and cliffs. Human activities include cattle-raising.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site, holding 20,000 or more wintering and passage waterbirds on a regular basis. It is also an important area for passage passerines.

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The drainage of wet meadows for cultivation is slowly causing the drying out the whole area. Breeding sites for waterbirds are being lost.
