Site details


Site description: The COMATSA is composed of sites from the Northern Highlands, including the Anjanaharibe – Sud Strict Nature Reserve, the Tsaratanana Special Reserve and Marojejy National Park. Located in a densely populated area with much land under rice production, this corridor plays a very important role for water supply for domestic and agricultural use.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site contains the entire known populatin of Cophyla olgae and Spinomantis nussbaumi. Rhombophryne guentherpetersi, Rhombophryne ornata, and Rhombophryne tany qualify under A1a/B2 and an additional 15 amphibians, 10 birds, five invertebrates, six mannals, 16 plants and three reptiles meet legacy KBA criteria and are in need of reassessment.
Manageability of the site: Site was previosuly identified as a KBA and confirmed as an AZE during the 2015-2018 AZE project. Most of the site corresponds to COMATSA Nord National Park (WDPAID: 555697907).
