Site details


Site description: A fast-flowing river with pools, marshes, woodland, cultivated and uncultivated land, heathland, cliffs, and reservoirs. Human activities include mining and quarrying.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for passage and breeding raptors. The site is a migratory bottleneck, where more than 3,000 raptors pass on a regular basis (including Pernis apivorus 10,000; Milvus migrans 1,000; Milvus milvus 1,000).

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The site is threatened by forestry exploitation and the replacement of natural woodland with exotic species. Sailing causes disturbance to birds.
