Site details


Site description: Extensive area of ​​broken relief that is located in the north of Uruguay, in the departments of Rivera and Tacuarembó. The predominant environments are ravine forests, grasslands and wetlands. The main land uses are afforestation and extensive cattle ranching. Currently, the protection of the site is partial, meaning a very insignificant proportion of the area.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site contains the entire known populations of the amphibian Melanophryniscus lagonei and the plant Parodia nothorauschii. Two species of Vulnerable bird species, the Sharp-tailed Tyrant and the Saffron-cowled Blackbird, meet threatened species criteria.
