Site description: A bay with sandy beaches, saltwater lagoons and marshes, mudflats, rivers, ponds, wet meadows, small woodlands, grassland, and arable land.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site holds 20,000 or more waterbirds in winter, on a regular basis.

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The site is threatened by drainage, cultivation, the inadequate management of water-levels and high hunting pressure. The rate of drainage within the SPA area has been reduced by agri-environmental schemes but the threat remains.
