Site description: The site is located near Virovitica. Industrial lagoons of sugar refinery are used between late summer and winter. In spring and early summer they are very productive with high plankton and insect biomass, which is the favourable habitat for Stilt. The most significant population of Black-winged Stilt in Croatia nest at this locality.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
