Site details


Site description: A mosaic of moorland and blanket bog, which overlies deep peat. Calluna, Eriophorum and Scirpus dominate the blanket bog plant community, which is interspersed with areas of acid grassland and Sphagnum-rich mire. The IBA supports an assemblage of breeding moorland birds.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Delineation rationale: First identified in 1989; no significant boundary changes since. Digitised onto 1:50,000 scale OS maps.
