Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: Keban Barajı (SitRecID 9618; 100,000 ha) was proposed in BirdLife 2001 Ramsar Shadow List publication, but in 2004 was split into Keban Adaları (SitRecID 24297; 10,776 ha) and Güney Keban Barajı (SitRecID 24298; 47,140 ha) (Kiliç & Eken 2004).
