Site details


Site description: Situated about 5 km west of St Andrews, this reservoir was formed following the impoundment of the Cameron Burn. The reservoir is moderately nutrient-rich and supports fringing aquatic and marginal vegetation, which is succeeded by Salix carr. The IBA is important for wintering waterbirds, and as an autumn and winter roost for geese.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: First designated in 1989; no significant changes to the boundary since then. SPA boundary used from JNCC; digitised at 1:10,000 scale.
