Site details


Site description: A string of rocky islands and skerries with cliffs and screes, but each with its own character. There is a strong maritime influence on the grassland and heathland vegetation communities. The islands are important for breeding seabirds. Branta leucopsis are from the Greenland breeding population.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: First identified in 1989; no significant boundary changes since then. SPA boundary used from JNCC; digitised at 1:10,000 scale.
