Site details

Site description: The IBA comprises a freshwater reservoir with about 120,000 ha of open shallow water that does not exceed 1-2 m in depth. There are reedbeds in the centre of the reservoir which provide good habitat for waterbirds. It is located in the least developed part of Shenyang and the habitats are still in good condition. However, over-fishing, bird egg collection and hunting are threats to the waterbirds in the area.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
