Site details
Site description: Located in the north-east of Tongbai County, bordering Xinyang City to the east, Queshan County to the north and Miyang County to the west. The IBA is higher in the north and slightly sloping to the south, and mostly comprises high mountains and river valleys. It is the origin of the Wuli He and Maoji He rivers, which flow into the Huai He river.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Many nationally and procvincially protected plants such as Gingko. About 30 species of large mammals recorded including leopard cat, pangolin, goral etc. Giant salamander also found in this site.
Delineation rationale: Boundary digitized by Gill Bunting at Birdlife International using Google Earth. Accuracy probably OK.
