Site details


Site description: The site is located on the east Padana plain, close to the village of Codigoro, inland of the Po delta. The pools of a sugar factory are the main land-use of the area, together with nature conservation.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: A large mixed heronry. The presence of the colony is linked to the sugar-factory pools.
