Site details


Site description: An island in the Wadden Sea with grassland and meadows enclosed by dykes, saltmarshes and mudflats.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This is a very important site for waterbirds, with more than 100,000 individuals using the site. Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed within the area, including Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Philomachus pugnax, Gelochelidon nilotica, Sterna hirundo and S. paradisaea.
