Site description: A partly drained lake with large areas of marshland. The IBA consists of two discrete parts.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: The site was designated as a Special Protection Area on the basis of two breeding species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive; Circus aeruginosus (no longer breeding) and C. pygargus (breeding in some years).
