Site details

Site description: Vresen is a small islet with a little vegetation, surrounded by shallow sea areas.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site for wintering Somateria mollissima; although numbers fell in the early 1990s due to siltation of mussel banks caused by the construction of the Great Belt Bridge, numbers in the Great Belt area as a whole seem to have recovered.
