Site details


Site description: A shallow sea bay and coastal peninsulas with saltmarshes, reedbeds, heathlands, sandy and stony beaches, clay cliffs, unimproved dry grasslands, mixed deciduous forest and small patches of botanically interesting meadow on old shell beds. The site also includes a partly cultivated island with scattered habitation.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Of high importance for wintering Somateria mollissima and Melanitta nigra, but recent quantitative data are unavailable. Sterna paradisaea, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breeds at the site.
