Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: 2012-02-13 (BL Secretariat): following the secession of South Sudan, the original Lake Abiad (SitRecID 6810) has been bisected by the new international border and has therefore been superseded and split into two new sites.
