Site details
Site description: The small island of Sprogø.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Numbers of Somateria mollissima have now recovered after decreases caused by siltation from the construction of the Great Belt Bridge. Sterna sandvicensis, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, bred at the site in 1983, but almost all breeding gulls and terns have been displaced from the site as a result of the bridge construction work.
