Site details


Site description: A dyked fjord/lagoon area (a failed land-reclamation project) with saltmarshes, meadows (partly cultivated), reedbeds and plantation areas.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: No recent data are available as the area is not well surveyed or monitored. Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Philomachus pugnax and Sterna albifrons, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, bred at the site in 1983.
