Site details
Site description: A sea area connecting Isefjorden with Kattegat, and the mouth of a shallow fjord with beaches, sand-dunes, saltmarsh, heathland, clay cliffs, agriculture and urban areas. Terrestrial habitats cover just 2.5% of the IBA.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: This site is important for wintering waterbirds (more than 20,000 individuals), especially for Somateria mollissima, and other waterbirds in cold winters when the remainder of the Isefjord is frozen over. This is also a significant bottleneck site for migrating raptors, particularly in spring (12,090 in total in spring 1996). High numbers of passerines, especially finches Fringilla, occur on passage. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (max. 8, passage). Dryocopus maritus and Lanius collurio, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site.
