Site details


Site description: A forested hilly area with scattered glades, wetlands and heathlands. Approximately half the forested area comprises Picea abies plantations, the remainder being mainly broadleaved forest plantations with several smaller areas of mature forest dominated by Fagus or Quercus.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Other species listed on Annex I of the Birds Directive that also breed at the site include Pernis apivorus, Caprimulgus europaeus and Lanius collurio.

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The area has suffered damage from intensive forest management and firewood collection. These threats are ongoing but much damage has already been done and most of the remaining valuable areas have some protection.
